Professor Sawang is Research Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Edinburgh Napier University, where she directs the Centre for Business Innovations and Sustainable Solutions and leads the Management Group. She also holds adjunct professorships at Queensland University of Technology, Australia, and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. Her leadership brings together researchers, businesses and policymakers to advance responsible innovation and sustainable enterprise.
BACKGROUND
Professor Sawang’s academic background combines organisational psychology and innovation management, providing the foundation for her interdisciplinary research on entrepreneurship, technological change and sustainability. Her international career spans higher education, public service and banking, with experience across Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa and North America. She has held senior leadership positions, including Associate Dean and Director of Research, at universities in the UK and Australia.

RESEARCH
Professor Sawang’s research examines how entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises navigate technological, environmental and institutional change. Combining organisational psychology, entrepreneurship and innovation management, her work explores responsible AI, digital transformation, entrepreneurial wellbeing and sustainability transitions. With more than 4,400 citations and over £1.5 million in research funding, she leads international projects that connect academic insight with real-world challenges.
INDUSTRY AND POLICY ENGAGEMENT
Professor Sawang works with businesses, policymakers and communities to translate research into practical solutions for responsible innovation and sustainable growth. Her experience includes advising SMEs across Asia and Australia, developing entrepreneurship education programmes, delivering training for the Asian Productivity Organization and contributing to innovation policy. Through international partnerships, she supports stronger connections between research, industry and society.
